Visit to Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) at St’ Patrick station and kebab near the gallery
I got off at St. Patrick’s station and walked about 5 minutes and arrived at AGO. I lined up at register and got in by scanning already-bought ticket. It was very easy to go in. You can also buy ticket on the spot. They even have annual pass for adding $10 to the ticket, which was $25 for a day.
It was 5 story building, each story was in charge of a theme. The art works seemed to change every time. When I went there, there were some ships downstairs, religious art and photography first floor, Spanish art 3rd floor, modern art 4th floor, and Canadian art on the 5th floor. There was agent in each section so if you have questions about art, you can ask anytime.
First Floor
Ancient arts with religious theme was prevalent in the first floor. Some photograph works were there too. Astonishing cultures and painting take your breath away. If you look closely, there are photographs around the mirror and it was a great spot to take pictures, although I was disappointed tripods are not allowed. here is 360 degree video of what you will see, if you get in there.
Basement
That’s my favorite ship out of all the ships in the basement. War ships from Asia was there even. Detailed design is replicated through wood work to show you how hard they tried to make the ship.
3rd Floor
Spanish art was very delicate and detailed. Sculpture to painting, there is no one art that are not amazing. You should defiantly check it out when you go to AGO.
4th Floor
Queer, stationary, African art were all the modern arts in the 4th floor. I really liked this floor because I don’t know much about art and it looked something I could see nowadays. Ancient arts were beautiful too but modern art was very new too.
5th floor
On the 5th floor, one artist who was very enthusiastic to collect art ruled. It was daily life themed paintings. there were sceneries of Canada. I did not know there were so many arts in Canada.
Food
I got hungry and went to a kebab’s place near the station, St. Patrick The food was so filling I could not even walk afterwards. Tastes great and filled with bacon-tasting kebab meat, vegetable and 3 kinds of sauce. (dill mayo, sweet ranch and mild sauce) I did not eat dinner that day. I recommend going there in two and share one meal.
Summary
It was very good trip that made me think a lot. It is great to go alone or in two. They don’t allow tripod so don’t bring it. Rather than taking photos, take an hour or two to look closely at art and reading captions. It is very educational place.
